My dad’s first car

Do you know what is so great about this job? Sometimes people send us wonderful stories. The following story was sent to us by Maureen Champion. She wrote:

''This was my dad's first car, which he paid £82 for in about 1953 and was his pride and joy until he had to sell it because of the excessive fuel consumption! It was an ex-hire car, which apparently seated 8. This is a photo of me sitting on the bonnet when I was 3 years old, so this gives a rough size of it. Dad always said it was a Renault. I can remember it being so huge inside that when we went out on a day trip, they actually boiled a kettle on a little primus stove, on the floor between the seats in the back! Mum and dad have both passed away now and we are sorting through all the old photos. I would dearly love to know a little bit more about the make and model of the car if anyone can help. Many thanks.''
