My Dads Car is a Mystery (UPD: Vernon Derby, Standard Avon Sports, Singer Junior?)

Some photos are really 'arty' and believe it or not we love these nearly vanished memories. And no matter how poor the quality, there is always some good information in the photo.

In this case sender Peter Clackett added:  "I found this photo of my father in a mystery car. He was born in 1916 and I assume that the photo is 1936 to 1940. Can anyone identify this vehicle. Is it standard vehicle or has it been modified? And can anyone identify the emblem on the hood. "

Our first feeling was Alvis beetle back which is totally wrong of course. The door cut-outs point in another direction. And how about those hubs. The radiator mascot is even more disturbing. Please help us, help Peter Clackett out.

Looking at the hubs, could be a Crouch as campaigned in VSCC events.

For my money it is a 1932 Singer - known as the 9/60. Very early development of the 1931 Junior engine into the Le Mans 9 which is more familiar. Always fitted with 4 stud Dunlop Magna wheels. The engine was specific to 1932.

I had a 1930 Singer Junior and the radiator curved to the side differently. I would say this was a Morris Minor with special body. The Singer did not have a 4 spoke wheel. There's something a bit amateur about the shape and curvature of the rear deck....

Hmm, not easy, is it ? Requires a marque specialist to identify the instrumentation layout & steering wheel. Wheel centres are not clear enough to help much, but Triumph Seven a possibility ?

No doubts: This car is a 2nd series Singer Junior with "spider" body; There is a car exact to the one pictured above restored in Portugal

could it be a picture prop? A lot of the background looks staged and the angel of wheels looks a little strange. It was not uncommon for people to pose with props.
