Moviestar in the Sunset Song

Ian Murray reports about his Locke bodied 1914 ED:
"The Reno has been on tour.  It's just had its 100th Birthday and was used in the filming of "Sunset Song" - a story written by the Scottish Author, Lewis Grassic Gibbon. So far this has been the longest trip I've made with it, and across the highest main road in Scotland, the A93 to Spittal of Glenshee. There was a little steam at times, but she made it over the heights. The journey took me right up to Caithness and Sutherland and in total I think we covered just over 400 miles."

editor: Well,  that's the way to keep a hundred years motorcar alive. Make it a moviestar and give it a 400 mile work-out.

Well if The Automobile really said this,
then the contributor concerned ( possibly a dealer attending the auction you mention)was voicing an opinion that the editorial staff were hardly likely to share. That said, however, the editor should have had the comment removed.I think most people would share my view that it is an absolutely gorgeous travelling saloon (limousine?).Well done, Mr.Murray-a really good car doing its stuff as it should!

editor: I share your opinion that it is a georgeous edwardian saloon (it is not a limousine with devision). Saloons of that era are very scarce and if ever nearly never seen on the road.

Well done Ian! I remember meeting with you years ago when we lived in Scotland - we still have our 1935 Morris Eight and the 1912 Triumph Motorcycle. All the great places you travelled with this fabulous car bring back some fantastic memories. There is nothing in the world like vintage motoring in Scotland. Been there, done that and longing to return some day for more. Say Hi to all our Scottish friends. Terry

Very interesting to hear that it was sold at auction some years ago - and shame on "The Automobile" - although, she is a very big girl!
I'd be very interested to know more of the UK history of the car. It was imported by UK dealer Steven Langton in 1980 but not registered until 1984. At that time the registration number was SL 9914 and at some point it was owned by Thomas Dunstall. Can anyone shed light on when it was sold and at through which auction house? Meanwhile I'll plough through my back copies of The Automobile! Shame on them........!

Did you ever see the Locke bodied cabriolet in the John Rich museum in Frackville Pennsylvania?
It's previous owner ran out of gas in front of my place when it was in Waterloo, Canada.
He was restoring a 5 ton Pierce Arrow truck that he dragged out of a jungle in South America.
Great family.

I remember many years ago, when this car had been sold at auction, "the automobile" noticed the body of this car beeing the ugliest, they yhave ever seen, which is`nt really correct.
