Of course we see all adverts before publishing them and some we sit up and say: “Hey, this is nice!” One such parts advert is this one from Brian Swann who wants to sell a Mercedes, so we contacted him to know more about it. For 36 years Brian worked at Peugeot in Coventry UK and when he retired he decided to build large scale models. As his interest was mainly Bugatti he constructed one in scale 1/7, some 600 mm or 23.5 inch long! Brian made everything himself: the chassis from brass and the body was copper sheet. After this first model he hasn’t looked back and in the seven years since his retirement he made about 25 models. It usually takes him 4 to 6 months to finish a model. Some he kept for himself, some were given away and others were sold to collectors from around the world. The one now advertised is a 1914 GP Mercedes as driven by Louis Wagner and measures approximately 560mm in length and is 200mm (22 by 8 inches).
