Me? Never?

The season is on, so we thought it is good timing to show you this situation. It's not a big thing, but it could have been disisaster. A car leaving the trailer is the very last thing you need during a touring weekend. So never say never. Odd things with trailers happen all the time.  So when you are planning a trip check your material way before. Check your car. Check the lights. Check the trailer. Check the correrct weight on the hook (you don't want this to happen). And when you have loaded do another check.  And check again after the first 10 miles. Check again when you do a tankstop. And after that great but fatiguing weekend, do the very same checks before and during the hometrip. Believe us it's time well spent. (photo Karel Vermeer)

Been there...done that. it was a light car, but required a bigger truck to set it straight. (The only damage was a bent parking brake -- fixed with a hammer.)

Forgot to add, I would never have a car transported with its hood (top) up, what would be perfectly safe at 40-45 on the ground will be subject to huge forces at the height its at together with the higher towing speed I imagine would be used, much safer to drive the car under its own power. !

Sad to see this happen, but I've done the same thing myself in the past 40 years of trailering vehicles. A simple front bar on the trailer would have helped keep the car from going too far forward. Just helped a friend tow a car home, wondered why the trailer got crazy at 90KPH. Wrong hitch ball for the trailer, we were towing with the safety chains! Check everything, twice.

I recognize this situation, for just a distance of 2 kilometers carefully drive I thought handbrake and the gear was sufficient.
At the first slight touch brake, the car slid forward as if there was not any friction resistance.
This was a hard way a lesson to learn, that the car should be an integral part of the trailer by good securing.
Otherwise the moving inertial mass of the car overcomes the braking force.
So, I think te securing was not fitted or or locking clamps were too weak for this heavy car and has broken

As far as I can see from the photo, no serious damage to either vehicle was done and that is a very good thing. Great article for the start of this years summer events.
Happy motoring, Warren

Sometimes safer just to drive the old car... and occasionally quicker!
