Bruges is one of Europe's most beautiful cities, celebrated for its superbly preserved mediæval centre which few other towns and cities can rival. Tourist guides will direct you towards the glorious Church of Our Lady, which houses probably the only Michelangelo sculpture to have left Italy during his lifetime, the 13th-century Belfry of Bruges which towers over the open Markt, and the ornately Gothic City Hall. At this time of year, the Christmas markets are always a big draw for tourists, but the most exciting event happening Bruges this weekend is the 100 Miles Rally.
The 100 Miles is well-known by know, having been run for several years past at different locations around the Netherlands and Belgium, always on what feels like the coldest and bleakest night of the whole year, and PreWarCar.com has always been a keen supporter.
We're taking part this year in nothing less magnificent than a 1907 Itala 40hp, a car we have every confidence in as it has previously completed the gruelling race from Peking to Paris. Very shortly, we'll be thundering through the night on this Mephistophelean machine, but for now we're soaking up the atmosphere at the start, where forty other pre-war cars have assembled and will be joining us on the rally.
Why don't you join us, too? If you can't be here in person, you can join us in spirit by watching the livestream. Visit the website at 19.30 Belgium time (GMT+1)!
