The smell of burned Castrol and the smile on everyone’s faces

There couldn't have been a bigger contrast than last weekend between the 2022 Grand Prix of Miami and the revival of the pre-war French GP in Montlhéry. Where one was for the general public and was about show and glamour, the other was for the happy few who wanted to smell the burned Castrol, hear the aero-engined cars and see the cars high up on the banks. We can definitely say that we were happy to be at the Vintage Revival Montlhéry and to see the Formula 1 on teleview instead of the other way around.

Vintage Revival Montlhéry 2022

The weekend at the famous historical circuit just south of Paris was one of the best we have had. Cars and bikes that we had not seen before drove around the circuit with well-known cars like Bugattis, Amilcars, Morgans and similar. What to think of the return of the SEFAC?

The sun was out the whole weekend and everyone was excited for the silly class (as one of the participants named it) — the aero-engined cars, that make much noise and get smiles from the bystanders. Cars like the Beast of Turin and the 200hp Darracq were driven to the event and got the crowd enthusiastic.

Awards were given to the best club, which was BNC, best bike was a Motosacoche and the best car was one that really reflects the spirit of the event: the Leyat Helica.

One thing is for sure, an event like this is unique and everyone who spoke to us was already excited for the next edition. But will there be one? In two years, it will be the centenary of the circuit, the Autodrome de Linas Montlhéry, and we can only hope that there will be another VRM. We cannot wait!

With this in mind, we would like to thank Vincent, Freddie, Pioupiou and the rest of the 95(!) volunteers for organising such a great event, as well a big shout-out to participants who came from all over the world to take out the best cars and bikes from the pre-war period.

Hopefully, à bientôt!

All my admiration and respect for this glorious historical place. I just hope it remains like this for ever, and not a shoping mall or a posh neibourhood in the near future.
