A shake hands Mystery. ( George Richard, Vivinus or De Diettrich?)

Stefan Feller seems to have a weak spot for mysterious engines as he has already shown us several. Here’s another one that looks very friendly as its carburetor wants to shake hands with us. Some carbs do not like to shake the cyclists hands but perhaps this one? The letters DRGM indicate that it is German made and its dimensions are: total height is 50cm; bore 102 mm. Please also note the unusual circuit breaker with lever. Have you seen this handshake before? Then please tell us and Stefan Feller what it is!

It's a Vivinus engine or one made under licence from circa 1899. The change de ignition commands en the two sides of the carter for recuperation of oil - vapor. What is the make of carburetter?

Thanks for your answers.

JP

The Vivinus engine and the New Orleans used crankcase cooling - where these copper cyls are wa snormally a gauze - obviously this was a dirt trap - possible someone has modified these openings to still provide cooling /venting but not to scoop in dust etc. Diagram of same in John Henry Knight - "Light Motor Cars & Voiturettes"

Hello all, the copper cylinders are a mystery of its own. These are adjustable with a costly mechanism but empty, in my oppinion not original. Some detail say it is home made. The head was clamped in another way. thanks, Stefan

Not sure about the handshake, but the motor is likely from a c1901 Vivinus light car from Belgium. They were known in the UK and some other countries as New Orleans. A New Orleans/Vivinus was one of the earliest cars imported into South Australia. Beautiful.
I have photos if interested.

I just wonder about the purpose of two massive (copper?) columns. Do I see right they help to clamp head to cylinder? This seema odd to me.

I suggest it might be a boat engine. The lever on the front looks like it might be for changing the rotation of the engine - from running forwards to running backwards.
