Gold and rust at Hershey 2022
After rain comes sunshine, and that's exactly the phrase that comes to mind concerning the Hershey Fall Meet 2022. Monday and Tuesday were wet - very wet - and this had its effect on everything. Most visitors stayed at home or went to the AACA Museum and stallholders either did not show up or kept a lid on their inventory.
On Wednesday, the fun really started. The sun was shining, there were more smiles than the days before and everyone, including your editor, was having a good time.
As with any similar car jumble, we are always amazed at the treasure (or is it junk!?) that people have in their garages, changing hands during the week. Cars and trailers are loaded up with rusty stuff on arrival and leave at the end of the week just as heavily laden, but with other things that are just a little more promising in their eyes.
There was a huge amount of non-car-related stuff on the stand, a trend we have seen at many swap meets over the years, but if you are looking for parts for American makes, Hershey is still the place to be. In addition, there were beautiful cars on display, both with vendors and at the car show on Friday (the first time it was not held at the weekend, but more on that tomorrow). The PreWarCar.com and PostWarClassic.com team had a great time, wandering the fields and checking every stand for that one item we don't actually need but want very badly. We met a great bunch of old and new friends and took some photos in the meantime. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

My husband and I are the couple wearing the need 1926 Pontiac Parts. Family members made fun of me for the art work....but we came home with a radiator , a horn button, a connection for engine gaskets too! Pays to advertise! Still looking for the hood for my 1968 Firebird!

Swap meets are not just for finding and selling car parts, but they are also great social events. This reminds me of an old saying I think from the American west, 'Gentlemen this is a social event. Please leave your guns and politics at the door'.

I've been going to Hershey since 1975. The first time I was there it rained hard and the then-unpaved swap meet area was a sea of mud. There were rivers running along the lanes of the swap meet. A lot of parts got ruined and I was in water up to my waist! There was a report of a tornado west of the town but it didn't touch down at the meet. I was last there about 9 years ago and saw that the entire place was now paved which sure makes it easier to navigate.
One thing that Hershey has that Beaulieu doesn't are vendors selling buck knives, ultra-right wing bumper stickers and the like along with olive-green t-shirts with a picture of a skull in a beret and it reads, "Kill them all, let God sort them out!" Small examples of charming Americana, to be sure. On the whole, I prefer Beaulieu.
