You may not know it, but the PreWarCar.com headquarters is, and always has been, in the Netherlands. People are often surprised when we tell them we hail from that little Low Country, but you know now.
Anyway, while the Dutch aren’t particularly well known for their motoring industry (although we did invent both the wheel clamp and the speed camera), there have been a few Dutch motor manufacturers of which we are very proud. Spyker of Amsterdam must rank first among them, as we’re sure you'll agree.
We’ve had our fair share of Spyker-related stories on these hallowed pages, ranging from a mystery museum exhibit (this one), to an Indonesian garden find (here) and a Guianese barn find (here), and an author’s request for unseen pictures (here).
The photograph supplied by Karel Vermeer recently is also worthy of a turn in the spotlight. He writes: “Here is a nice photo of a Spyker, with Dutch provincial license plate E-308 (for the province of Overijssel). The passengers are well dressed, with a nice suitcase and covers for the headlights.”
Quite so. We see six people in the car wearing the kind of dresses and headwear, which make us think the picture was taken in the winter of the year, but what year might that have been? And what are those light covers good for? With a loyal Spyker following here, we’re sure one of you will be able to let us know exactly what model we're looking at, but who can help with the location? A city in Overijssel would make sense, but that big tourer could quite easily and speedily travel outside the provincial boundaries, too…
