Ah – skiing! Once a sport of the elite, and only carried out by people with double-barred names in fair-isle sweaters, who had the time and money to spend the winter in an art-deco palace in sunny Switzerland or Austria, Canada or Colorado. By this time skiing is not quite so highbrow anymore. The skiing - and après-skiing - industry has taken the whole of the Alps and Rockies like an avalanche. It’s like mass motoring itself.
These four girls were, together with their dog, at the start of the turn when they didn’t seem to go skiing for any glamour purposes. More for the fun of it all. We came across the photograph just because of that lovely steel-wheeled motor car (marque and model?). Mind those bare knees. But apart from posing on the running boards, the girls come by in a little photographic series of four – having a bit of fun with skis, putting them on and having another bit of fun. All the information that came with it is that these were taken in or around Toronto, Canada on January 17, 1926.
