Just a Song and Dance man? (UPDATEs: Triumph)

The man in the fancy dress on the motorbike is Joe P. Rains. But as a local man of Winster, Derbyshire everybody called him Joe Pea because he ran a grocer's shop. For many years he has also been the musician to the Winster Morris Dancers, who even named a dance after him. This photo -taken in the 1920s or thirties- was sent to us by Steven White on behalf of the local history group. To date the picture they would very much like to know what kind of motorcycle Joe Pea is driving. Can you help identify it? Contact us

Update II: Rick Ford sends us this picture of a similar bike and himself, taken on the set of 'Lawrence of Arabia' 1961, 'Cairo Street Scene' actually Almeria which was then a quiet fishing port. (Editor: looks like Rick almost got his boots dirty!).
Updates came in from Brian Walker, Joe Dwyer, Mark Dawber, Leon Mitchell and of course Geert & Thijs from Yesterdays all agreeing on a Triumph, Model H.
Mark Dawber: “This type was produced from just before WW1 and about 30,000 were made for the military. This bike could be an ex-WD model. Note the distinguishing Triumph feature of the horizontal spring below the headlight and the stirrup front brake.
Leon Mitchell: “This one seems to have the larger style petrol tank (started in 1920) and the flared front guard (finished in 1921). I noticed the enclosed front fork spring - available on the Model H as an option but fitted to all Model SD (Spring Drive).”
