The Ups & Downs while recreating Jappic. (upd. dog eared JAP)

Enough has been written on the web about the wonderfull Jappic; you can even see it running at British Pathé. The creation or Mr. Walters and body by Jarvis was flying low along the high banks of Brooklands in the mid twenties at sppeds up to and over 70 mph. Sadly it was burnt to ashes in the catacombes of Montlhéry.  Adrian Ward has taken up the ambitious project to recreate the Jappic racing cyclecar . Based on all available vintage information he made new drawings of the car and set himself to the build. So far he's doing brilliant. Check for instance the refined chassis(click) he has created. Also he is making good progress with the body and more, yet several vital components just refuse to turn up. A Coventry Victor engine for instance (but he would be happy with a comparable JAP 350 or 495) . Also a lightweight Lemoine frontaxle is not the kind of things you trip over at a decent autjumble nowadays; so he would settle for some good period Chater Lea stuff. Let's give Adrian a hand, put please leave your matches at home...

Well progress is good , I have now acquired an engine , it is the correct 1924 racing engine , I do need a timing chain case for forward mounted magneto
Still hunting for a front axle , just missed a great front axle on prewar car a few weeks ago , so they are out there

I agree with Adrian. That engine is pure dog-ear JAP fitted with a Best & Lloyd oil pump and Amac (pre AMAL)carburetor. Very much all mid-20's.

Hi Joris not sure where your information came from but the jappic had a 350 jap engine , from around 1925 it had exposed ohv valves and twin exhaust ports , which can be clearly seen in the news reel
