Is it a Dixi Crossword Puzzle? (Upd. Dixi Type R9)

Part of a large motoring club badge collection is this heavy nickeled item. Despite it is many years in the collection so far the owner has no clue as to what it is. If you like crossword puzzles you can make the word "DiXi" from the letters in the center. But then the next question is: Which Dixi? The badge is too large and heavy to be related with the (BMW) Dixi. The US made Dixi then? Or the US based Dixie Car Club? Help us out!

Perhaps the letters do not spell out a company name but rather a date or just roman numerals?
I = 1
X = 10
D = 500
Perhaps only the D is representative of the Manufacturer's name?

The large recess that surrounds the letters is also in the shape of a "D" so possibly there are two d's.

The badge is from the DIXI Automobiles, built in Eisenach Germany. Look for the advertising in "DER MOTOR" Sept./Oct. 1916

I somehow don't think that this 'Hood Ornament" would be from the American "DixiE Flyer" or "DixiE Junior", with the additional "e" on the end ? ? See :

Maybe there is an association with the nearby Eisenach "Wartburg Castle".
The Heraldic Coronet on the top may be a reference to the "Von Doering" family.
