When your father trades in classic cars and has a garage, is it in this day and age still self-evident you help in the business?

For 19-year old Hagen Kranz this is a no-brainer. He lives in Germany, and studies Marketing Management in the Netherlands. Hagen is particularly interested in pre-war race cars and alongside his study works for Oldtimerservice Kranz – his father’s company. His father Hubert started the company in 2002, in the first instance he focused on the sale of English PreWarCars. The business expanded and they now also have their own workplace with three employees. Hagen’s role within the company is to talk to customers, inform them about the different cars they have for sale and transport the vehicles. He told us many of their customers are under the age of 40, who are particularly interested in pre-war cars.

Pre-war race cars

In 2014, Hagen’s passion for pre-war race cars started. With the Dutch Vintage Sports Car Club he raced “Wreath Special” during Vintage Revival Zandvoort. The Rover 14 Special he then participated in currently drives around Malta.

In the last couple of years, the family Kranz went to various national and international race meetings. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic they missed the Spring Start at Silverstone, that was organised by the Vintage Sports-Car Club earlier this year. But later this year they hope to race the 1928 Riley Brooklands from the family collection on the Nürburgring, circuit Zandvoort and Spa-Francorchamps. The preparations beforehand, the thrill and excitement on the track and meeting friends is what young Kranz likes the most about the race events.

We asked Hagen his thoughts on how he thinks we can get more youngsters enthusiastic about PreWarCars.“ By means of social media such as Facebook and Instagram it is possible to bring youngsters into contact with PreWarCars. The aim is to introduce young people to early vehicles and how you can use them for multiple purposes such as racing, rallying, trailing, etc. “
