While a lot of people tend to stay indoors in January, hiding from the cold and whatnot, Vintage Sports-Car Club members do things differently—they jump in the cars and have fun. The annual New Year Driving Tests at Brooklands are a most welcome fixture on the calendar when there is otherwise a dearth of events between the Brighton Run and the springtime. It's wonderful to see so many drivers out having fun in pre-war cars, whether they're wrestling with a big Edwardian or dancing a graceful ballet in a tail-happy Frazer Nash, and no matter the weather...

Alas, the weather this year was as bad as it gets. You wouldn't know it from the photographs, which were taken in the first hour of the day, but all the die-hards who went to Brooklands that day did so in spite of the knowledge that they were in for a merciless soaking from eleven o'clock!

Good fun was had all the same, with 47 cars and more than 50 drivers darting about on the historic concrete. We are indebted to Adrian Berg of imageperfectphotos for capturing the atmosphere of the occasion in these pictures.
