Help identifying a gearbox

The BSA Front Wheel Drive Club purchased a BSA Three-Wheeler gearbox at the auction of the contents from the Hammond Microcar Museum in Kent. Along with the BSA gearbox, they acquired the transaxle shown in the attached photographs. They have no idea what vehicle it came from.
It looks to be early 1950s or even 1940s, as all the post-1950 transaxles have casings cast with ribs to get the weight down. It clearly attached to an engine with a clutch so we assume it is a manual gearbox. The third shot shows a number on the top on the box. The club would really like to know what it came from.
Who can help them out?

Hi many thanks for the suggestion we believe the box was made by the German Company Carl Hurth. The plate below matches the holes on the gearbox cover the question which car di nit fit. Peter Cook BSA FWD Club
