How do you import your classic car temporarily into the UK for an event?

Since Britain's withdrawal from the EU, it has been a grey area for many classic car owners as to how they can take their classic car to the UK. Many people want to participate in events such as the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run so, for this purpose, transport specialist CARS has drawn up an overview.

EU-Registered Vehicles (including tow vehicles and trailers)

You must carry the following documentation when temporarily importing EU-registered vehicles into the UK:

• EU Driving Licence
• Vehicle Registration Document (for tow vehicle, trailer and Veteran car)
• Insurance Green Card (for tow vehicle, trailer, and Veteran car)
• C110 Form (for both Veteran car and tow vehicle.  Download it here.) 

The C110 form must be completed before you arrive into the UK.  Print out two copies of the form, sending one off to the address given on the website and keeping one with each applicable vehicle. 

EU Registered vehicles will NOT require an ATA Carnet for temporary UK import.

Trailers

It is not clear whether the UK requires trailers being temporarily imported to be separately registered.

Many EU countries do require trailers to have separate registrations from their tow vehicle.

All trailers must be properly insured to be towed on the road in the UK and be in a roadworthy condition.

Overseas (Non-EU) Registered Vehicles

You must carry the following documentation when temporarily importing overseas (non-EU) registered vehicles into the UK:

• Overseas Driving Licence
• Vehicle Registration Document
• Insurance Green Card

Non-EU registered vehicles entering the UK / Europe from overseas will require a customs entry on arrival.  Your shipping agent will be able to provide further information on this procedure.
