His wife said:
either It goes, or I go !

Doug Marin writes us: 'Antonio Marin was born in 1916, in the town of Cavaso del Tomba, Italy. He was one of my grandfather’s younger brothers. The photo has 1935 written on the back, but we think there is a good chance that it is much later than that. Can your readers identify the Maserati #20? The story goes that in the late 1930’s he joined the Alfa Romeo racing team as a mechanic. Is there anyone out there that can confirm this? He was a newly wed when he brought a racecar home; his wife took one look and said, “Either it goes or I go”. The car was sold shortly thereafter. After the WWII, he opened his own auto repair shop. There was no money; he did welding without the benefit of the protective glasses which later in life caused him to go blind. He immigrated to the U.S. and later moved to Toronto Canada where he lived out the rest of his life."
Can you learn us more about Antonio, about the Maserati or his racing career with Alfa Romeo and /or elsewhere? Then please contact us. We found the name of an Antonio (Jose) Marin on a page with results of the 1953 Carrera Panamericana, where he started with a Plymouth Belvedere.
