Heavy stuff at Retromobile

August next year marks the start of the First World War 100 years ago. The Great War, as it was known, involved the mobilization of almost four million men and thousands of vehicles, tanks, trucks, tractors and motor cars. Retromobile, to be held in Paris from February 5 to 9, will commemorate the start of the Great War with an 4.000 square foot diorama featuring many of these wartime vehicles. Among them the Renault FT17 tank shown above. And of course there will be an example of the famous Renault AG, better known as the "Marne Taxi". In September 1914 more than 600 Paris taxis were requisitioned by the French army to carry 3.000 soldiers to the front line at the Marne River, some 100 kilometers from Paris. This quick counterattack brought the German army to a standstill, resulting in a four-year trench war in which countless lives were lost. Not really a "fun" subject for a car show, yet after 100 years still a vital part of our history that should never be forgotten.
