Found this weekend: Clement-Bayard AC2V 1905

While we were out with the last check of The 100 Miles these photos came in from monsieur Gouinieau: "If you remember, I am the person who has found a Citroen Traction Avant roadster in a forest. I write you this email, because I have found another car. It's a Clement-Bayard AC2V of 1904 or 1905 (My research let me think, it's a 1905 model). I found this car in a collapsed barn. It came out of the barn this evening!"

Congratulations with your wonderful find!
You can follow the restoration on his website

What an amazing find!
I guess the AC of AC2V just meant Automobiles Clément (or Adolphe Clément). The '2' indicates the number of cylinders. According to my database the 1904 2V model had a 80 x 100 mm engine and the 1905 2V model had a 80 x 110 mm engine.
However, the Autoworld museum in Brussels has a 1905 2V-ter model (what would 'ter' indicate? a third version?) whose engine is said to 85 x 110 mm. I think you should certainly contact Autoworld.
If you want I can give you references to articles on this model which have appeared in contemporary automotive journals.

What a wonderbul barnfind!
The pressure for the oiling system comes from the exhaust (see the copper tube). My 1910 Èpalle which I am restoring has a similar system - with a small oil tank over the running board. And in addition the exhaust pressure feeds the petrol from the tank to the carb.
To keep the pressure nearly constant and to avoid back pressure they installed a pressure regulating valve (see Ranking Kennedy Vol III page 93). I am missing this valve. Can anybody help me find one (for sale or just as a pattern)?

Dear Monsieur Gouinieau or Guy Mahy - I also have a Clement-Bayard AC2V that I am trying to restore here in Australia and would be very interested in gaining some details (photos/plans/diagrams) of the front axle, clutch and gearbox assembly (pedals, but didn't see any in your images), gear and handbrake levers (and linkages), etc. Would you be able to assist?

Hello,
The type AC-2V is listed in the 1904 and 1905 Catalogues. It is not listed in06, however a type AC-2VB is listed in 1906 and in 1907.

Hello monsieur Guinieau... I have in my garage one of her englisch sisters. It is a Talbot-Clement,(the Clement that were assembled in england) but they are 99,99 % identical. The production of these cars started in 1905 and lasted till 1908. Mine is 1907.
If you need info or pictures you are very wellcome

The only difference I can see is the carburator. The original one is an A. Clement with waterjacket to warm up.

To Darryl Grey, the copper tubes will take the oil to the two connectingrods in the block and one pipe comes from the exhaust to make presure in the oiler.

Nice projet as the basis looks very complete !!!

Hello,

Concerning the copper tubes I can imagine that those are connected to an oil box that should be hanging in front of the driver feet. This one probably with 2 drop counter glasses or how would you call them. The third line is connected in this case to the exhaust system in order to pressurize the oil container I guess. This is a lost oil system where the provided oil is pumped into the engine and from there it is lost (on the street). We have a Le Zebre with a similar system that has a small pressure pump on the engine block in order to provide that pressure in the oil tank.

Greetings:
Christian Fritz

I will create a blog or a website for the restoration of this car.
The four copper tubes terminating (and not three) are linked to an Dubrulle oiler (dissassemble for transport).

What a wonderful find - they just keep coming! I hope the owners will keep us posted with regular updates of the restoration.
Pardon my ignorance but can someone enlighten me on the function of the three copper tubes terminating at about where the pedals will be?
