Fashion always follows function

Even in the early days of motoring, big events had their spin-offs. Right after the finish in August 1907 of the adventurous race from Peking to Paris, one fashion house introduced this ladies fur coat, which was aptly called Peking-Paris. It was described in their catalogue as practical and elegant for daily use. Very elegant indeed, but practical for another trip across the Gobi-desert...? Don't think so. Although we haven't looked at the weather forecast yet, we suggest it's much better suited for this weekend's London-to-Brighton Veteran Car Run (click main pic for full view).
