Earlier this week in the PreWarCar.com Magazine…
Wow, what a joy it was once again to be part of The 100 Miles. For the first time in Rotterdam and we can already say it was a big success. Many happy faces, beautiful cars and enthusiastic drivers were participating in this winter night rally. Many photos and movies can be found on
our Facebook page and later this week we will have a feature about it in our online magazine. For now, it is time for us to recover and what is better than reading the interesting articles on our website.
Enjoy your Sunday!
It’s only recently that we heard the story of Frenchman François Lecot, who motored 400,000 kilometres in his Citroën 11CV in just a year time, averaging some 1,100 kms per day in the mid-1930s. Although it ends rather sad, this is a lovely story, which we like to share with you here.
We like it when a car has a special story and it certainly goes for the Nelson Special. Although the radiator badge proudly mentions HE as its marque (for Herbert Engineering), this car really should be named the Nelson Special, built by farmer Thomas Grant Nelson of Kingston Lisle.
With numerous high-speed cars at his disposal, a talent for driving them and a devil-may-care person, Mike Hawthorn was well set-up to get the most out of his short life. He was lucky to have a supportive father, whose 21st birthday gift to Mike of a 1934 Riley Ulster Imp really kick-started the Hawthorn legend.
How often does an editor get this enthusiastic about a book. Especially one that comes so close to Christmas. We were very happy to read the new book about The Tricycle from 1895 and 1902. It describes the first racing machines, the technical characteristics, the evolution, performance, engineers, distributors, brands and much more.
We have to say. This week’s Friday Lady does look a little bit grumpy. She obviously was not really in the mood to pose for the photograph. Or is it her serious look? The lady we see is one of the three Dunsmuir daughters.
Is this a car or is it a plane? A well-known quote, based on Superman. It definitely is not Superman but what is it? Do you recognize this car? Is it a one-off, special or a very original car?
