The attached photographs were recently unearthed. Roderick, who found them, asked us if we can tell him more about the PreWarCar we see. He wrote to us “ unsure of the car make yet my dad talked of his father owning an Autocrat car and wondered if any readers could identify what it is”. He also added that his brother thinks the car is an Autocrat. We think he is right.
Have a look at the video of this extraordinary 1907 Métallurgique-Maybach. What a machine! Originally this Metallurgique was a special 60/80hp model that was fitted with a 10-litre engine. But the 100 horsepowers with the special high-geared back-axle were not fast enough for Land Speed Record holder Ernest Eldridge. So he decided to sell the car to Messrs Cole and Tillett. They extended the chassis (no. 577) to accommodate an enormous and very rare 1910 Maybach-Zeppelin airship engine. This unique German side-valve 21-litre Maybach Type AZ engine has 6-cylinders and was designed by son Karl Maybach.

This photograph was sent in by regular contributor Steve Diggins. It is taken in Vancouver, Canada around 1912. The magnificent Edwardian car has a sporting torpedo body. “It is close coupled, narrow, has a very low line and quite likely a bold colour combination”, as Steve described. It looks like the car takes part in a parade or other festive activity. For this special occasion, these two beautiful ladies are dressed in their finest.
