On (Easter) Saturday, 16 April, the Fortified Towns Route of the Zuiderwaterlinie will be marked with a tour of various fortified towns and a festive arrival in Steenbergen. This is primarily a tour for pre-war cars, but other classic car owners will also receive a warm welcome.

Where fortified towns used to have to defend themselves against uninvited guests, they now open their gates to everyone who cares about their cultural and historical heritage. This certainly applies to lovers of mobile heritage in the broadest sense of the word. The route on Saturday, April 16 starts in Heusden. The procession of dozens of unique cars will then visit the fortified towns of Geertruidenberg, Willemstad and Bergen op Zoom, before finally finishing in Steenbergen.

JUBILEUM

In Steenbergen, the 750th anniversary of the town will be celebrated, including an extensive Fortress Weekend during Easter. Around the arrival of the pre-war and classic procession on 16 April, a lively programme has been set up, complete with sailing heritage, guided tours along various vehicles such as a horse-drawn tram, a carriage and a canal boat, walks with 'city heralds' through the fortress, old crafts, cultural activities and entertainment. In other words, there is plenty to do for young and old alike.

Given the special nature of the Vestingstedenrit and the party programme in Steenbergen, interest is high. Should you wish to participate and have a pre-war car or special classic car, there is still a limited possibility to participate. It costs 149 euros per team and you can register through our KNAC webshop. This includes reception with coffee/tea and something nice, goody bag, rally shield, lunch and closing drinks.

The Zuiderwaterlinie Vestigingssteden Route came about thanks to a fine collaboration between the Association of Dutch Fortified Towns (VNV), the Zuiderwaterlinie Alliance, Visit Brabant, the ANWB and KNAC. This tourist concept will be rolled out in several regions of our country in the coming years.

Start in Heusden where there is a closed car park, finish in Steenbergen. Transport from Steenbergen to Heusden will be arranged for car/trailer pick-up.
