First Dutch trial a blast!

Despite the lack of hills last Sunday's first Dutch Trial was a big success. Twenty four teams were battling their way through a decent portion of mud and misery. A fabulous spring sun helped to realise big smiles on everybody's face. The mix of cars was remarkable. Not only the expected Austin Sevens and MG's (yes it's a J2 above!), also a Rover Special (click main picture), an Australian built Chevy Monoposto, various Alvises and a 1910 Knox with Beijing Paris experience. Organisation by the Dutch Vintage Sports Car Club (check more photos) was perfect, so we're looking forward to the next edition of the Dutch Trial. How about next week?

The VSCC who organise many trials in the UK specifically discourage the conversion of original saloons such as your British Salmson into trial specials or pseudo racers.

R.Mawer- these cars are built purposely for trialling, having competed in many VSCC trials my self and having a family member with a trials austin, I know how much work goes into them. All trialists know their cars live a hard life and build them accordingly. Yes cars get damaged or broke but there are spares readily available to replace them. Also the owners give them a thorough once over after every event to make sure everything is how it should be

I dont believe 80 years old (or more!)cars should be treated this way (in any country)-did competitors deliberately drive into the deepest liquid mud they could find? Was there a competition to see who could get most mud on their face? What about the damage to hub bearings, brake drums, kingpins, etc. Surely driving successfully on a slippery surface, not sinking on purpose into a pool of mud is what skillful driving is all about?

I love it! But, you've probably caused a rash of heart failure among the American "concours" crowd.

They've been coming over to join the 750 Brooklands Centre Cobham trial since 2010. Lack of hills means they have been struggling to practice between annual events - Looks like we may get a shock this year

Congratulations to the DVSCC in general and to Juri Castricum in particular. The organization was indeed perfect, thanks to a large groups of volunteers and marshals. For many drivers, it was a first trialing experience (hence the slicks, Mr. Penketh), and since it was such a good experience, this won't be our last trial! Never had so many laughs while driving a pre war!

Aw, C'mon now Austin 7 !
At least some Town and Country tyres would have helped !
I don't think "Slicks" are "De rigeur" for this type of event !
