The Swiss organisation that has been successfully organising the Bernina Gran Turismo for years came up with a nice idea. As part of the St. Moritz Automobile Week 2022, they are organising a rally for cars that are too young for the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (pre-1905) and too old for the 1000 Miglia (post-1926) called the Targa Poschiavo Engadina.
This exclusive rally in the Swiss Alps takes the drivers on the first day – Sunday 4 September – over the famous Bernina Pass with a fantastic view of the Morteratsch Glacier. The Bernina Pass was opened to cars in 1910 and only in 1960 was asphalt laid. The participants drive (most probably) in the snow to the small town of Poschiavo, close to the Italian border. The second driving day ― Monday 6 September ― will be another wonderful drive though the Swiss Alps with amazing scenery. The route for both days can be found here and here.
Participant in the Targa Poschiavo Engadina get preferential treatment at other racing and luxury events in the European festival of historic mobility ― the St. Moritz Automobile Week (provided, of course, that they have a suitable vehicle).
Sounds good, don’t you think? Registration for this unique international event is now open. Cars up to 1939 are accepted, but priority is given to cars from 1905 to 1926.
