The town cars of a well-known Parisienne

We know that the lady seen on this picture is Laure Jarny, but who she was exactly remains a bit of a mystery to us. We found that she starred in a French 1930 comedy film, appeared to have been modelling for a number of 1920s and 1930s fashion houses and was also seen next to singer Edith Piaf. Perhaps 'socialite' would describe her best. 

Duesenberg Model J by Hibbard & Darrin

The car she’s seen with must have been a real star of the concours d’élégance held in the Parc des Princes in Paris in 1930. It’s a long-wheelbase Duesenberg Model J bodied by Hibbard & Darrin in Transformable Convertible or Town Car style. It was advertised in France as ‘The most beautiful, the softest, the fastest and the most expensive car in the world’, which reputedly didn’t worry the French concessionaire at the Champs Elysees (directeur: E. Z. Sadovich), which managed to sell several of them. The car was later seen at a similar event in Cannes, too. The ‘05’ number plate suggests it was at home on the Côte d’Azur. Where is it now?

One more picture of Laure Jarny shows her - with dog - in another car. Its body style is similar but this one is her own, if we believe the caption accompanying it: “Mademoiselle Laure Jarny, la Parisienne bien connu, arrive a Longchamp, conduisant elle-même son coupé Bugatti”. Translated: 'Miss Laure Jarny, the well-known Parisienne, arrives at Longchamp, driving her own Bugatti coupé'.
