Concours of Elegance Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Conceived as part of the late Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, the Concours of Elegance filled the lawns of Windsor Castle with 60 of the world's most desirable cars. Ten years later, now well settled into its permanent home at Hampton Court Palace on the banks of the River Thames, it firmly occupies a space on the calendar as a concours of international importance.

Veteran and Vintage cars feature heavily

For 2022, 26 pre-war cars featured in the main concours, with others scattered around Hampton Court's beautiful formal gardens with dealers, car clubs and the Gooding & Co auction. These ranged from an unrestored 1903 Panhard et Levassor 10hp tonneau which has been in the same family from new to the otherworldly 1938 Hispano-Suiza H6B Xenia, the brainchild of inventor André Dubonnet with streamlined bodywork by Saoutchik.

Delage takes top prize

The owners of the concours cars were responsible for choosing the overall winner, which can only have been a very difficult decision, but it was named as the 1938 Delage D8-120 two-seater by de Villars, a spectacular one-off which won the Grand Prize on its début at the 1938 Concours de l'Auto de Printemps.

• Pre-1915: 1912 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost tourer by Arthur Mulliner
• 1920s: 1925 Vauxhall 30-98 Wensum tourer
• 1930s: 1930 Cord L-29 Brougham
• Bridge of Weir Design Award: 1938 Hispano-Suiza H6B Xenia
