Judging by the number of solutions we received on our Christmas Quiz, you must all have had a lot of fun trying to solve this puzzle. First let’s give you the correct solutions. Rest assured, we didn’t look for spelling errors or exact names from birth certificates ;-) The girl from day 1 was of course Mercédès Jellinek. Her father, Emil Jellinek, started selling Daimler motorcars under her name. The bearded man on day 2 was not a character from the Lord of the Rings, but Henry M. Leland, of Cadillac fame. We think Barney Oldfield on day 3, was recognized by almost everybody, at least the cigar must have been a giveaway. For Americans the racing driver on day 4 must have been easy as Ralph de Palma dominated the Indy 500 for many years. You could have had a slight problem by identifying Christian Lautenslager on day 5, as the information we presented was a bit incorrect (thanks for the correction Heinzgerd Schott). The victory in the French Grand Prix 1914 was indeed his most famous, but it was not his last race as we said, although we think nobody was wrong footed. We had thought that the woman on day 6 would be the most difficult, but even the entrants that had other names wrong came up with her name: Kay Petre. We printed all the emails with the correct answers; mixed them in a large basket and hand picked six of them. The winners of the PreWarCar T-shirt are: Vladimir Perkic from Slovenia, Dermot Johnson and Jeremy Leasor from the UK, Helmut Kasimirowicz from Germany, Peter Slootweg from Holland and Tony Prebensen from New Zealand. Congratulations to all! The T-shirts will be sent to you a.s.a.p. See Read More for the list of the other entrants who had six correct answers. (RB)
