Border incident during Weert Arcen Weert. (Update II: recommended for LaFrance cyclecars)

Every two years the Dutch Cyclecar Association will organise the historical Weert Arcen Weert rally. The 2010 version is fixed for 25-26 September. As you can see the local authorities take the event quite seriously. This year's edition will take the cyclecaristes near and accross the German border, so in view of possible meetings with 'Grenzschutz & Feldwebel' at least some serious looking paperwork must be carried by all participating cars. The rally Weert-Arcen-Weert is open to all cyclecars and voiturettes of the makes Amilcar, Salmson, Bignan, BNC, Darmont, Derby, Gar, GN, Hinstin, Rally, Sénéchal etc. and some other cars that fit to the spirit & atmosphere of the event. Such to be decided by the organising committee. Please contact chairman Mr. Jos Cox for more details or download your registration form here and now .

This event is an excellent weekend away and well worth the trip from England to participate. I have always been made more that welcome even though mine is no cycle car. However an American LaFrance running on stubbs does draw a lot of attention from the authorities so I hope there are no problems for me. I recomend anyone thinking of doing the Weert rally to sign up.

Indeed the Germans have taken serious measures in their attempts to keep the Weer-Arcen-Weert rally out of their country (in vain!). A new phenomena has been observed when outlining the road book for the rally: Frontier barriers! The idea of open borders in the European Community has been seriously violated by the German government.

to be witness of one of the typical obstacles we encountered at the borderline between Holland and Germany at location Zyfflich.

But you can be reassured: these obstacles have been replaced by others by the organisation
