Autovia’s are rare

One of the automobiles that will be auctioned by H&H next week is a rare 1938 Autovia Sports Saloon. Check their lot 62 (click!). Nigel Plant, who is an Autovia expert, tells us that this particular car is unique in being a one off saloon body built for the 1937 Motor Show by Arthur Mulliner and differs from the standard body in having a smaller boot and therefore a larger passenger compartment. We quote Nigel: “Originally it was painted Maroon/Burgundy which contrasted with the original Beige leather upholstery that it still has. It is many years since I last saw the car, having first seen it some some thirty years ago when I was unable to raise the thousand pounds then being asked for the car…” (colour photos courtesy H&H Classic Auctioneers) (RB)
