A Bentley-London 'Muppet' Mystery?

Louise Browne sends this picture and adds: "This has been sitting on our heart for the last fifty years or so. My father was an engineer and in the past he was a racer and stuntman. I have no idea what this is. I had thought it must be a radiator blanking cap, but I can't seem to find any brass ones. Is this the real McCoy and did it come from a very early model? It's probably really easy so sorry if I'm a muppet but I would love to know."

Editor: Well if you're a muppet, we are the same. We have no idea how to place this Bentley-London cap, no matter if it's a radiator blank of a hubcap, this one being the closest example we found. So like usual the truth should come from our loyal readers who basically know everything!

I have one of these, the trans pennine vintage car rally used to run past our front door, I would sit out in the front yard for hours watching the vehicles go by. In 1967 I was rewarded with a clicking noise and the wheel hub nut came into my possession!I was 7 years old.

Hello, I too bought a cap similar to the one above from a charity shop window nearly 20 years ago. My husband keeps his pencil sharpening in it! Could you tell me if it is genuine please and if so what sort of value it would have? Thank you.

This is a W.O Bentley hub cap. If it is nickel it would probably be from a 3, 4.5, 6.5. I can not judge the size in the photo. The 8 Litre caps were a little bigger.

Caps on Bentleys some time fly off. That is whey you see rubber bands securing them on cars that are driven today.

It is a dust cap or hub cap from a WO Bentley used on all models from the 3lt thru to 8lt, if it is a pressing it is real if a casting probably reproduction

The item is a dust cap fitted to WO Bentleys, the 8 litre model usually (but not always) had a blue badge fixed to the radiator shell and the blue colour on the engraving suggests to me that the car from which it came was an 8 litre W.O. Bentley, circa 1931.

It is of course the centre of the two piece hub nut of a 1920s Bentley the other bit being the 'eared' part.

That's a hub nut/cap from some kind of horse drawn vehicle.

I think that's a very early Bentley hubcap.

London means that it probably dates from before the Rolls-Royce takeover.

This is a vintage Bentley hub cap. I would need to see the back side, to see if it is genuine or not.
