When, a couple of years ago, this enchanting photograph was uploaded on the worldwide web by etsy.com it didn’t take long before it spread like wildfire in a dried-out wood. It is now regularly used to illustrate the need of young women in the motor industry. And why not? It is another great example of a picture saying more than a thousand words, we reckon.
But here at PreWarCar.com, we are always hungry for a bit more than just that. So we were eager to learn a little on the background of this now well-known image. Not much is known, or so it seems. All we could find was that it was taken in 1927 – allegedly, while the girls are said to be college girls learning about the mechanicals of a car – supposedly.
Is it American? Probably, although the girls could well be Italian. The short haircuts must have been rather fashionable? Also, note the snow chain on the car in front of the girls' subject of study. Just winter - or snowy surroundings – the Alps, Vermont..? And what is that poster on the wall? A chassis layout? Oh, and then we haven’t even asked you what exactly that car is..?
UPDATE: Wow! Ace Zenek manages to identify the girls in detail, see his comment below.
