Andy Capp barnfinds (UPDATE II: 1931 Opel !)

You can't find a prewar Delage or Alfa every day. More likely to find the kind of transport you suspect Andy Capp had in front of the house. But now our question is, did Andy ever own - or even sleep in - a car during his newspaper career, that started in 1957?
Arie Roest (what's in a name) recently discovered these two everyday cars (click photo to see both cars) that left the public road more than 40 years ago. It won't take an expert to see it's an Opel (1931?) and a Austin Seven (1933?). But let's be realistic, chances to find a prewar Austin AND a prewar Opel in one barn isn't that big either. Now if you have Andy's energy level, better forget about the Opel, check the pre-GM dashboard. Maybe better invest in a good old web enterprise.

Update II by Rudy Hanenbergh: “Definitely a 1931 Opel 1.2, a GM-product including the dashboard.”
UPDATE I by Martin Blanchard:"Being an avid Andy Capp collector I have never seen him driving a car. The closest I have come across is a mention of Andy and Flo taking a trip to the lake district while Andy was in the army. It was in a Bren Carrier. I also have a strip where Andy suggests a neighbour with a car should knit a pullover for it."

Ik ben nu de eigenaar van deze Opel en bezig met restauratie. Ik ben al aardig op weg. Chassis is helemaal klaar veel plaatwerk gedaan. Ben nu met dak bezig. Het is een Nederlandse auto me nog het provinciale nummer uit Noord Holland. Het nummer werd uitgegeven aan een plaatselijke smid de Jongh die heden een mechanisatiebedrijf heeft in Uithoorn.
