An experiment by Citroën

Did you all have a good weekend? Let's start the week with a funny but mysterious vehicle. We came across this black and white photograph on the worldwide web. It is an experimental project by Citroën. We think the photo of this taxi is taken sometime around 1925. But other than that we have no idea whatsoever.

Who can tell us more about this vehicle? Which is not so comfortable for the chauffeur when it is raining...

Am advised by my Citroen5CV friend Michel Gosset that it is a Citroen 5HP "Taxi speciale " ! Only 3 louvres , hence a 1922. This picture is in the 5HP book by Bernard Laurent . Vehice probably not very well received by users .

According to "Die verrücktesten Autos der Welt" page 84, the car was made by a taxicompany in Paris.
The picture shows the car from the other side where a taxameter is shown.

This was not a new idea. Vauxhall Motors looked at a similar design before WW1 laid down by Lord Ranfurly. This was built to look like a motorised hansom cab with the driver controlling the machine by long linkages from his perch at the rear. The Citroen design seems a little retrospective as far as driver comfort is concerned. By this time in car design, the driver was considered more than just an extension of the machine. Although it must be said that London buses did not get driver windscreens until 1931, although these were being used in other parts of the country.
