About What is it? Quiz #488: 1915 Lozier

First of all, thank you very much for participating in last week's Quiz #488. Did you recognise the car instantly? Or did you need to do a little bit more research? Eight people in total sent in their answer. Unfortunately, some of your answers were (far) more than 100 words or did not write down their sources. Think about that next time!

Let`s talk about the car. The Pre-War Car in the photograph is indeed a 1915 Lozier Roadster. This particular one is on display at the Tupelo Automobile Museum in Mississippi as some of you also mentioned.

Neil Beadle told us more about the company: “Lozier started production of cars in 1905 in New York. In 1910 they moved to Detroit making high quality, very expensive cars. Their slogan was 'The Quality Car for Quality People' Lozier were successful in motor racing, their driver Ralph Mulford winning the 1911 Vanderbilt Cup. Mulford in a Lozier was placed second in the first Indianapolis 500 race, controversy over the final result continues today. When sales fell and a Ford take-over deal fell through, the company foundered. The last Lozier was built in 1917.”

Gerd Klioba could tell us more about the Type 82 we see here: “Built from 1915 to 1918 in Detroit, the Type 82 was the last new Lozier model. The 132'' wheelbase chassis was powered by a six-cylinder engine of 36 hp or 61 bhp (depending on sources). In 1915, only 200 Lozier cars were built.“

The winner:

When we decide who the winner is, we take multiple things into account. Of course the make, the year and the type need to be correct. But also what additional information and fun facts are given, the sources and how reliable are they? Who did go the extra mile?

The person who in our eyes gave the most complete answer (also taking into account the sources), and therefore receives the full 5 points in the six-month competition, sponsored by Hans Compter Rare Cars, is.. Neil Beadle!

Congratulations Neil! You are also this week the winner!

Again thank you all for participating. Have a good Saturday!
