Prewarcar May 08
Who says Veteran cars don’t race? Better known for rallying and touring, Veteran cars aren’t often seen on the race track. All hail then to Andrew Howe-Davis, keen Member of the Veteran Car Club competing at the VSCC’s Silverstone ‘Spring start’ race meeting at the end of April. Andrew fearlessly shared the track with much faster pre-war cars than his magnificent SCAT Racer in the GP Italia & Lancaster Trophies race. Although not posing a threat to other competitors, except perhaps in the style stakes, Andrew completed the race without fault alongside the likes of a Napier Bentley, Frazer Nash Super Sports and Bugatti 35Bs. Economically, he completed just seven laps to others’ ten laps, finishing in one piece to live to compete in other events. It just goes to show the versatility of some of our more mature vehicles. UPDATE II by Toby Bexley:"The Scatt you have on the front page today has indeed got a LaFrance engine. I remember seeing the man as he was talking about how he had fitted the 9.5ltr La France engine to the Scatt. " (editor: and why not? there are no problems with racing a veteran special I guess)
UPDATE I: Keith Canouse reports that this SCAT racer seems to have an American LaFrance instead of the original SCAT unit. Any experts who know more about this?
