A tantalising mess!

But oh what a beautiful mess! This 1929 Bugatti Type 40 Grand Sport was first registered in East Sussex, but little is known about its history until 1956 when it was bought by its present owner who used it well into the 1970s. During the late 1990s some bodywork was done, including a respray and a partial retrim. Yet it’s still incomplete and a fair way from being finished. The steering column is absent as is some of the associated linkage. The engine appears to have been only loosely put back together and lacks various ancillaries. Much of the `tinware' is held in place with zipties and the wiring is a mess. Also the driver's seat has gone missing. But to us this mess does look like an inspiring project that would be a joy to finish. First check the new & period photos of lot 57. And then be sure to register timely for H&H’s March 14 sale at Stoneleigh Park. (photos courtesy H&H)
