A sunbeam in dark December days.

Due to your editor's laziness and lack of organisation, the fine new book by Bruce Dowell & Peter Ransom kept waiting in our postbox for ages. Opening the postbox and package a few days back was like finding a treasure in a barn. Between dreary tax threats and direct marketing assaults the book is like a short holiday at Ibiza. A few hours of sun bathing... (click!). The book is a well succeeded attempt to bring into focus the 12-16 HP Sunbeams from the 1910-1914 era. Wonderful examples as the 1913 Sporting Model 12-16 HP which was converted in 1916 into this very 'snug' Coupe by Charlesworth. Nearly emotional photos like the semi casual shot with Emil Medinger, Victor Regal and Louis Coatalen along an urban section of the Dieppe circuit in 1912. Without having more than a teaspoon of Sunbeam knowledge it all feels very complete. But more important very nearby, almost tangible. which impression is only feede more by the last large chapter which is dedicated to all known surviving cars. Thank you Bruce Dowell, thank you Peter Ransom for bringing us this heartwarming beam of sun. (photos courtesy Landmark Publishing; check for add. info and ordering details their website)
