A struggle to survive

•

We thought this photo by John Vachon would be an apt reminder that today is International Woman's Day. Around the world hundreds of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations, governments and women's groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues. This photo was made in 1940 and shows a "Migrant woman from Arkansas in roadside camp of cherry pickers." It just goes to show how lucky most of us are today, but we should not forget those that still have to struggle for life! (photo by John Vachon, courtesy Shorpy)
