A Renault with Swedish roots is not ready for retirement this time

In 1913, a wealthy man in Stockholm bought a large Renault 4-cylinder car, as well as a type DU 6-cylinder. He used the cars for some time before donating them to a retirement home for actors just outside Stockholm in 1926.

Nothing really happened to the cars until they were 'found' in poor condition at the home in the 1950s. Real barn finds. The DU was restored in Sweden and recently sold abroad. What happened to the 4-cylinder is not known. Yes, it was sold. But where to? The US, according to rumours, but nobody really knew. Until recently, when Bonhams MPH released their auction catalogue featuring a beautiful 1913 Renault DJ 16hp Brougham de Ville. Andreas Uddling from Sweden recognized the Renault immediately, as he was in possession of an old photograph of the 'retirement home' car. The description in the advertisement mentions a Scandinavian connection. Both Andreas and we would like to know if anyone can shed some light on the car and tell us more.

The Renault looks impressive. It is an older restoration and has not been driven in the last 15 years, but it looks like with some TLC this type DJ could be restored to its former glory. We certainly hope that this time it will not end up in a retirement home.
