From the 23rd of April until the 12th of May 1900 the Automobile Club of Great Britain and Ireland organised the One Thousand Mile Trail. All automobiles left from Grosvenor Place in London and drove through Bristol, Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, Kendal, Carlisle, Edinburgh, Newcastle, York, Leeds, Sheffield, Lincoln, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton and back to London. The photograph we see here was taken on the road from Kendal to Windermere on Tuesday the 1st of May 1900. The hill you see in the background is also known as Alice Howe.
Bill sent us this picture with the question if we could help him identify the car.
We did some research ourselves about this One Thousand Mile Trail and found out that there were 83 entries, of which 65 actually started. At Edinburgh 51 were still running and 35 vehicles made it back to London. Daimler and Panhard were well-represented amongst the participants.
Is there anyone who can answer Bill's question and tell us more about the automobile we see in the picture?
