A Midwest Mercedes Mystery?

A gloomy workshop photo not giving away too much. Sender Jeff Perkins found several interesting lumps somewhere in the Midwest of the USA. This one we like to highlight. "This is the last of what I found, nothing for sale but nothing being done. Helper claimed this was a 1904 Mercedes but I thought those were chain drive?" Well Jeff, not sure what you have there but it looks like somebody is cobbling together some pre WWI racing special. In our view the chassis can be anything, the chassis and seats seem new, but one thing is sure that engine is the nicest piece we have seen in some time. Imagine those big rockers moving up and down with the beast idling! But to give a name and type to the machine we prefer to leave that to you folks out there.

On the Wheel locations Francisco, looks like the wheels with brake mounting are on the rear and think that is right.

It seems to be minus a transmission. This looks suspiciously like a collection of bits and pieces slung together.

It´s very curious that the wheels are in the wrong position: The rear wheels with the shorter wooden are in the front, and the front wheels are in the rear axle. Grat find anyway!
