A checkered mystery

''I am looking for information about a car my great-grandfather had purchased. I believe it was a modified Model T. My great-grandfather’s name was Casper Gesme. Casper was a farmer near Cannon Falls, MN. He bought the car, “just for fun,” which was basically his life motto. Casper was a jokester and always looking for a new way to laugh and have fun. After he purchased the car he had it painted checkered as you can see in the pictures, his reasoning was that no one else had it like that. After painting the car, the painter said he would never agree to do that again since it was so tedious and took so long. Unfortunately, no one in the family knows what happened to the car, or many details.''

''I now have a son who is named Casper (after my great-grandfather) as well. I think it would be a fun project to re-create this car, and possibly use as many original parts as possible. In order to do this, I am attempting to gather information on it. I am pretty certain these photos were taken before the 1930’s because my grandmother didn’t think she was born yet, and she was born in 1927. From what I've looked into I would estimate the car to be from around 1917-1920.''

We love people that are a bit eccentric like Casper. That is why we at PreWarCar.com think we should help Mathew Nelson. But we can of course only do that with your help. Is there is anyone that could be of any help with information about this specific car on the photographs? Do you think this is a (modified) Model T Speedster? Is this car still around (with the checkered pattern)? Please comment below, if you can tell us more about the car.

Whilst the pre-painted car and the post painted car would appear to be the same vehicle, it looks like the opening shape in the side of the body has been modified?

Hi.
There are many details on the car that are from model T.The rear axel with transverse spring for sure is from a model T so is the radiator too..The parking brake lever mounted outside the body seems to be from a T .On model T the hand brake lever operated both brakes and the clutch.
Best regards
Stig
