Here we have a real rare beauty from the 1930’s ; a Stutz MB Cabriolet , a rare bird indeed and she ( better a he, I feel ) looks to be in excellent shape all around! The powerful 322-cid overhead-cam inline 8 cyl. engine runs very strong and smooth. Probably helped by it’s dual ignition system too.
The car radiates “ here I come”, which Stutz proved already long time ago at the 1911 INDY 500 race, when a hastily assembled prototype did astoundingly well, and thus earned the slogan “ the car that made good in a day”
The marque is well established and respected worldwide and who has’nt heard of the Stutz Bearcat for example?
The engine is famous and race proven because of its sophisticated design: the overhead-camshaft inline eight cylinder featuring a chain driven camshaft, crossflow cylinder head, dual ignition and 10 main bearings guarantee a remarkable smooth and effortless performance.
The look is impressive too, helped by it huge and special 145’ wheelbase and the 20’” chrome wire wheels with Lester white wall tires that are also present on the dual side mounted spares.
Ofcourse this sporty Roadster comes with a golfbag door and plenty of room in the back as well as the famous “ rumble seat” ( which term was derived of the fact that your mother in law or other family member was delegated to the back of this 2 seater and rode just above the “ rumblin” rear axle! )
The vibrant and in very nice condition red painted body with black fenders combined with the massive chrome grill and wheels really make the car stand out.
Inside, you’ll find a nice combination of soft tan leather supplemented with a nicely finished real wood dash and quality working gauges.
The tan convertible top and trunk cover on the rear mounted luggage rack complement this attractive color combo.
This particular Stutz was recognized by a early marque specialist and entered in the Stutz registry by the early 1960’s and reportedly was sold new in Maryland.
Having been discovered in the late 1980’s and then painstakingly restored with a excellent eye for detail, the car was finished in the early 90’s and enjoyed and shown by the owners at multiple events with succes during the next 37 years , all while carefully and lovingly keeping it in top condition, untill they both passed on on the same day only a few years ago. Sounds like a true love story in more than one way..
There is a true treasure trove of documents like invoices, notes and letters dating back as far as 1955 as well as pictures of the restoration, that will accompany this beauty, something that is unfortunately lacking in many other cases, but not this one!
All in all, “he” is a great and poweful car that will draw attention and admiration where ever taken, and surely the next temporary caretaker ( you?) will feel like the Sun God Ra ( who’s head is the radiator mascot ) owning and driving him.
You’re truly looking at “ a lot of car for the money; only $175000 puts you in the driver seat!
Will be happy to assist in transporting this beauty anywhere on the planet for a reasonable price!
