1955 European tour in a pre-war Alfa Romeo

We received the following message from Larry:

"An old friend, Jon Repke, was a young, adventurous American GI stationed in West Germany back in 1955. For a young man with strong mechanical skills and a passion for cars, post-war Europe was the place to be. Jon bought and sold a few unique PreWarCars during this time. But the one he spoke of the most was the Alfa Romeo in the attached pictures.

"This photo is from 1955, when Jon and a fellow-GI travelled around Europe in the Alfa, camping in a small tent. During this trip, Jon met a beautiful young woman in Denmark, Hjordis, who would go on to become his wife. Jon is no longer with us, but Hjordis would love to know if we can find more information on the car. She would especially like to know if the car still exists, and if so, where it resides.

"I'm no expert on this legendary marque, but I believe it is an Alfa Romeo 6c 1500 super sport. Can anyone provide more information on the car? Also, can anyone find more detailed information on the car based on the clearly visible registration number? Jon brought the car back to the states around 1957.

"Thanks for any help you can provide on the identity of this wonderful Alfa!"
