Ambitious 1908 Dennis Lorry Project

Ben Hawkins rescued the rolling chassis of a 1908 Dennis 3 ton lorry with the help of some friends around four years ago. He writes: "It had been the undercarriage of a caravan in Lincolnshire for many years. This is my first vehicle project and to say it is ambitious is an understatement. I have been working on it ever since and just had the wheels restored so should not be far off having all the parts I have restored. I was losing hope of finding the original engine but three White and Poppe cylinder blocks turned up at Beaulieu International Autojumble. Not really enough to build an engine but it is a start, does anyone else have any parts?"
Indeed, quite an ambitious project, Ben! Anyone out there who can help or knows a source where to find them?

Hello Ben,

I have a contemporary Ahrens-Fox 14 litre 4 cylinder engine which may help you. It is possibly larger than your original but will give plenty of traction ! Best wishes, Graham Rankin

I recal seeing those cylinder blocks at Beaulieu and thinking someone would have to be brave or crazy to take those on, as Rudyard Kipling said "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!"

Go back to the start for a fascinating story of how to restore an early vehicle.
