129th anniversary of Paris-Rouen in pictures
"The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration." So said Claude Monet, probably Normandy's most celebrated painter. Last weekend, members of France's Club des Teuf-Teuf for veteran cars had the chance to experience the land which so inspired him when it commemorated the 129th anniversary of one of the first motor races, the famous Paris-Rouen.
Nowadays, it isn't a race any more and the cities which the race visited have changed quite a lot, but the event is still very enjoyable. Your editor took part in his 1909 Jackson, which was quite the challenge with just a single-cylinder 8hp De Dion Bouton engine to power it up the hills, but he wasn't alone. There was also an Anglo-French équipe with an even smaller-engined De Dion Bouton vis-à-vis which might not have shared Monet's love for the 'rich' undulating landscape. However, there is no doubt that this area, on the outskirts of Paris, with all its hills, castles and rural beauty is extremely picturesque.
The event was open to all pre-1918 cars and some interesting ones took part. We hope you enjoy the photos.
