1000 Miglia 2021 - Day 1 - Brescia to Viareggio
The first driving day of the Mille Miglia 2021 is today. Earlier this week, all cars underwent a sporting and technical inspection. And the race numbers and road-books were handed out to the competitors. After lunch at the Mille Miglia Museum, it is time for the participants to hit the road. The provisional start list can be found here. At 13:30 (Italian time), the first car will depart from the Viale Venezia in Brescia. A live stream of the start will be broadcast.
The programme
The programme for the next few days is as follows:
Wednesday 16 June 2021 - Brescia to Viareggio
13:30 - Departure of the first car from Brescia
20:45 - Dinner on the seafront of Viareggio
21:30 - Arrival of the first car for time check in Viareggio
Thursday 17 June 2021 – Viareggio to Roma
6:30 - Departure of the first car from Viareggio
from 13:15 - Lunch break in Castiglione della Pescaia
18:15 - Dinner in Viterbo
21:15 - Arrival of the first car for time check in Roma
Friday 18 June – Roma to Bologna
6:15 - Departure of the first car from Roma
from 13:30 - Lunch break in Arezzo
21:00 - Dinner in Bologna
from 21:45 - Arrival of the first car for time check in Bologna
Saturday 19 June – Bologna to Brescia
7:15 - Departure of the first car from Bologna
from 12:15 - Lunch break in Verona
from 16:00 - Arrival of the first car for time check in Brescia. Followed by a parade of all the cars on the Viale Venezia
from 19:00 - Award ceremony

A few years ago there was a interesting documentary on TV about a guy from England who had a restaurant there and because he was a big fan of the MM he decided to buy a small italian racecar and prepared it for the MM but after a few kilometers the reconditioned engine died on him and he couldn't participate the race any further. A big disappointment follwed. Does anybody remenber this guy? I would love to see that documentary again mainly because he was a big enthousiast and not because he was filthy rich. Maybe a LINK to You tube....anybody here?

That was James Martin...
A restoration does not mean you can drive the car. If I remember correctly they had not done any test miles after the restoration.

Sounds very interesting. I would like to see this as well.
There is a movie on Netflix named 'Rosso Mille Miglia' but this is not documentary or similar.

James Martin bought a 1948 Maserati A6GCS in 2008. All bought and prepared it cost somewhere in the region of £800,000. Then he tried to race it with no proving or running in and the engine gave way after a few miles, mainly because he didn't listen to the experts and over-revved it. It's not on youtube, or the BBC i player but there are copies of the DVD on Ebay I believe.

New road.. nice itinerary by the Garda lake then the rather boring log straights up to Parma where I have left the convoy.
I'll join the MM again on Friday at Montevarchi to cover the road to Bologna!
The MM is turning from a car event to a Hollywoodian staged show! This year we added the MM electric!
On the starting grid the same cars with self-celebrating Celeb and VIP at the wheel! Usual rich idiots driving the Ferrari Challange speed too much without reason nor the ability to do it (one has already married his car to a wall in less than 30 km from start) nothing new!
In a nutshell: money and boredom.

I must have seen the footage it in 2008-2009 or maybe 2012 on BBC so longer ago than I imagined. Time flies :-)
I didn´t know that this adventure cost Martin 800.000 GBP....!
But on the other hand a very brave man and that spirit is what we all need in these crazy times.
But a thorough testdrive before putting it on the streets of Italy would have been clever, but we learn every day.
Poor Martin...
